I have an old hard drive that shows content in Properties but when you explore it there are no files.
How do you rescue the data on the drive?

All Microsoft systems in play here....?
Do you know what format was used to originally format the drive?
If it's old, it is probably FAT16 or FAT32

Properties shows data. Bootice shows no drive letter, Bootice freezes when trying to assign drive letter, and Bootice shows 1.44MB size.

I would plug it into by linux (ubuntu) systems and see what I could see. Then I would google disk recovery tools for ubuntu. I assume you have done that for windows.

I used the right recovery tool. It did a deep scan and is getting everything.

What WAS the "right recovery tool"?

I though it was a partition issue, so I was looking for something that would un-partition it. I didn't find one that was free and allowed me to recover everything (and not just a little bit).
I searched for recovery, and found a list of a dozen of free ones. I used the second or third one (Puran) and that did the trick. Another day, I will try to format the drive.
