Well, technically I am currently using an autoformer for volume control. Not sure it is really a preamp. But yes, I do have my 1626 preamp that started life as a Roscoe 76 preamp.

It's back home now! David found that it needed a grid stopper, it would oscillate when the volume was turned ALL the way down (first step).
