Hey y’all. I’m looking to sell my modified Thorens TD160. First it has a custom plinth (some light colored wood like maple. Built it 20 years ago, honestly can’t remember.). Bottom of plinth has openings for suspension spring adjustment, etc. I added a Rega 300 tonearm with mods. It has an offset brass counterweight to lower the c.g. It’s been rewired with some fancy litz wire. Not super-high-end, but the best I could afford at the time. Probably cost between $150 and $200 back in 2010 dollars. It also has s silicone tape wrap around the tube that used to stick to itself but now it has a little piece of tape keeping it wrapped. I never noticed an audible difference. Now that I know about sticky dots, I could get rid of the tape. In fact I may do that tonight before I put it away. Everything imaginable is dampened. It’s all removable if you think I overdid it, or are concerned that it throws the platter out of balance. Again, I never noticed an audible difference. On top is an Achromat by Funk. It has a Q-up tonearm lift and a grounded carbon fiber grounded anti-static arm, which I rarely use. I paid what seemed like a princely sum for the connectors on the back. It sits on 4 sorbothane hemispheres. There is no cover, and it still uses the original power cord. Its served me well over the years and probably outperformed the phono staged I could afford when it was in my system. I know I’ll never get out of it what I put into it, but I’m asking $600 over on Facebook Marketplace. I have no idea what it’s worth. I have nothing to compare it to. If interested, make an offer. BTW, it comes with a low-mileage blue Denon cartridge with a flip-down stylus protector. It’s almost certainly a high-output Moving Coil, as I could never afford an MC phono stage back in the day (Schiit Audio didn’t exist back then). All in all, not a bad result for my first DIY turntable. My next project is restoring and building a massive plinth for a Panasonic/ Technics SP-10, and hopefully finding a good value 12” tonearm. So $600 OBO.
