New? Well, sorta....

April 17th, 2025, 3:56 am

Greetings from Brooklyn NY. Some of the members and mods may already know me, my name is Jeremy Epstein, and I have met Grover, Roscoe, and other DC DIY people, although it has been quite a while - very glad to be back in touch.

I've had many DIY components to my system in the past but as years go by some have required more repair and tweaking than I've been able to give them, and so at the moment my system is almost entirely made of of - shudder! - commercially manufactured items. I'm joining this board with the intention of perhaps going back to more DIY content, and repairing/rebuilding some of my DIY projects.

• Turntable: Thorens TD320, Denon DL103D (with repaired/replaced stylus and cantilever)
• Turntable project in progress: Garrard Lab 80 idler drive with Grado MTE+ cartridge (this is being developed/repaired/tweaked for use as a dedicated mono player)
• Step-ups: Jensen JL-155K mic step-ups
• CD: Naim
• Preamp: Adcom GFP-555
• Amplifier: Carver class D
• Speakers: DIY Voigt Pipe (Roscoe-inspired!) using Radio Shack 40-1354 fullrange with whizzer cone and ? silk dome tweeter, also a randomly implemented powered subwoofer

I hope to join the DC DIYers in person sometime - the last time I did that, it was a glorious evening, basking in the friendly glow of various 845 and 212-powered space heaters.

Welcome back! Now -- fire up your soldering equipment and start "hot-rodding" your store-bought goodies and make them perform the way they should.

Jeremy,

I think I met you at a meet at Grover’s house over 20 years ago. Been a long time. We do not meet anywhere as frequently as we used to, but we have a core who keep in touch. I remember the “Free Lunch” DC amp project, AKA “Monkey on a Stick”. Just checked and that was 25 years ago!

Yeah, I suppose "new" is a bit of a stretch, isn't it? I told Roscoe via email that he must be getting old.

You were all very wecoming and doing some excellent building last I saw your crew. I'll have to come check up on you, or maybe the next gaggle can be at my house.

Rejuvenating the Free Lunch is DEFINITELY on the list of Projects That Need Attention!
