I was in my new favorite (grocery?) store, Aldi, the other day and saw an ultrasonic cleaner for $30. Bought it thinking of cleaning up old tube sockets.

Got me to thinking, is it possible to clean the pins only of tubes? If I make up a jig so as to submerse only the pins, I could clean a half dozen or so at once.

Ideas? Anyone know if the ultrasonic vibrations will damage the vacuum seal/structure/grid/glass/etc?

I figure everything else is fair game: tag strips, terminal strips, sockets, hardware, etc.

I'll let you know how the other stuff turns out, but I'm a bit concerned about doing tube pins, although they are a royal PITA to clean conventionally, and I worry about destroying the pin coating when using abrasives, even gentle ones. Misplaced?

I've never worried about cleaning tube pins. That said, if you're going to experiment, try it first on some near end of life tubes, that way if they get ruined, who cares...
