At my visit to the Philadelphia Orchestra this week, the Playbill for the performance included an article titled “A Century of Recording”. Here is a link to that article:
https://philorch.ensembleartsphilly.org ... -article-6 The Philadelphia Orchestra is celebrating the 100th anniversary of being the first orchestra to record electronically. The author, Steve Holt, gave a lot of detail of the process from mechanical sound recording to electronic versions. The trials and tribulations of the passage were described along with historical photos. One of the interesting things described is that the Philadelphia station WRTI will be doing broadcasts on May 11th and 12th of a dual simultaneous recording session of Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, one with a two microphone setup reminiscent of a 1930s technique and the other as recordings are done today. I know that Roon will stream WRTI as one of the live radio selections. I don’t believe Spotify or Qobuz do. If interested, you might want to check the streaming service you use.
