Thanks, Roscoe. Old man is right. There aren't more than a few on here older than me. I wonder is someone can create a senior assisted living center for old audiophiles? Think of the possibilities! Attachment: Attachment:

I have to wonder what is going on with the younger generation. I got into this hobby (addiction) when I was 16-years old and never looked back. Now it seems that only people over 50 are in the hobby and in a lot of cases just now got involved. |

If I might offer some observations concerning interest in audio coming from the over 50 crowd. I see a similar age differentiation with amateur musicians, and it has a lot to do with managing life's priorities and demands such as career, family, debt, income, stability, living space, etc. Once you hit your 50's, you have probably gotten your kids through school (maybe not college), have advanced in your career or job, paid off debt (school loans), have a decent home, have more resources and time that you can devote to a hobby. The audio hobby can be an expensive one, and can be a solitary pursuit if your family is not similarly inclined or enjoys the same music. At least a home theater system can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. For those today who are living in small apartments or sharing an apartment with others, one doesn't have the space for a 2 channel audio system, hence the current and maybe predominant interest in headphone audio. One can enjoy music in little space and without disturbing your roommates and neighbors. For those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's, we had it good. We grew up with 2 channel audio, it was part of the culture, and we had the space and income to pursue it before the "high-end" arrived. As equipment became more expensive, the importance of audio in our lives helped us justify feeding that passion. |

Lot of super high-end audio gear is made for rich clients looking for expensive gadgets. Have you ever seen a anyone buy a Bentley or Rolls to drive? Dont think super expensive audio is any different. They are a status symbol. |

I never spent a fortune on any of my stuff -- especially when I was teenager. That's where DIY came in. I get it that those with deep pockets throw money at their audio issues, but I throw time at mine. When I worked full time, the weekends served this hobby well. One can always find time for a hobby -- it's healthy. DIY ROCKS!! |
