I was in a Borders bookstore over the weekend and came across this:

At first I just shook my head in questioning disgust to what's happening to todays young music listeners.

Then after thinking about it for a very brief time (hardly worth more), I thought that if this is what it takes to get young people into music listening and maybe, just maybe they will help keep the industry moving.

But, I have read recently that low-end gear sales are way off and the only segment that is growing is the ultra high-end audio jewelry, which led to more questioning disgust.

Paul,

Don't forget that Taylor Swift sells alot of vinyl, so her fans will have to buy a turntable to listen to it (if it not used for room decor. Granted, 90% will probably be cheap Crosley turntable (or the like), but maybe 10% will get something better, and then start growing from there. Interest in music is a good thing for the audio hobby.

Gosh, don't dump on Taylor Swift. In think she's a tremendously positive influence on young listeners in terms of engaging with music and...well, voting, regardless of whether you like her politics or not, and just general involvement in society. Far better, IMO, than some dark, violent goth stuff. She's very positive and upbeat.

No celebrity should ever be roll model to anybody. That's one reason why society is so messed up. And, she is definitely not the person you want your daughters to be like. How many boyfriends she's had?

It's one thing if you enjoy one's art, but that's it. Don't worship them. Never care what they think. They don't live like us in the real world. Life is different in their gated community.

This is the one time in my life that I have to agree with Steve. Taylor Swift and others like her are filthy rich "Divas" and although very talented their focus is strictly on their career -- PERIOD.

During my dating years, I dated a couple of wealthy chicks and in each case they carried more emotional baggage and bizarre opinions than any one in my experience. :angry-banghead:

To David and Grover's points, my wife is definitely a "Swiftie". So much so that I've re-procured my old Dual 721 and will soon be setting it up in our sunroom so that she can listen to her two brand new Taylor Swift albums. She WANTED to have vinyl of Taylor Swift. I just bought her a new pressing, two record set of the Grease soundtrack. One thing leads to another, it is great for our hobby, even if the music isn't to our tastes.

By the way, a VERY respected member of our group told me that, in his opinion, at least one of Swift's albums was very good.

My daughters like her but they do realize that she is the least talented singer. I think young girls like her songs because of the lyrics.

I keep wondering if she is worse singer or a worse dancer.

Face it: young folks listen with their phones and ear pods.

She released albums, and then re-released those albums as "Taylor's Version". Not a 40th anniversary re-release of something like a Boston or The Police. I am talking less than a decade. Sounds like a money grab to me.

You do understand that her entire early output was effectively stolen from her, right? That's why she rerecorded her earlier music, so SHE could profit from it and not some tech bro.
