Great discussion of noise and hum in a system

March 28th, 2023, 7:43 pm

The Part Time Audiophile had a discussion with Garth Powell about how to deal with noise and hum in a system. He debunks a lot of marketing hype along the way.

Yes, that was a really good podcast on how to systematically troubleshoot hum and noise in your system with some simple, I.e. low or no cost approaches. Basically, find the problem first and why it is occurring, and what seems to make it go away before spending money on devices touted to fix it. Also some good discussion on how noisy our environment is today from a RFI and powerline noise standpoint. Highly recommended!

I'm fortunate to have much fewer issues here than most of you. 700' to the nearest neighbor, no nearby TV or radio stations, and we're the only house on our transformer.

Of course, in FL, I'm in the same boat as the rest of you....

Fairly interesting podcast. The thing that always keeps me up at night is the old saying "You don't have to actually hear noise to know if you have a problem with noise/RFI."

My system is virtually dead quiet but I still wonder...........
