Ralph has been posting about his developments in Class D on Agon for a while, his new amp could make a big splash in Class D performance.

Interesting. A tube Class-D amplifier...or at least a tube circlotron output to a Class D front end.

My-my. He did a solid-state version of the ancient G.E. Circlotron. An old wheel with new tires.

I believe the Patent application states the Circlotron can use either solid state devices or tubes. I don't see the circlotron as being the main element, but what is in front of it, or the whole as a combination. Not sure the circlotron output itself is patentable.

I find the patent process questionable. I've seen patents over the years that should not have been granted. Basically "old wheels" with new names.

When loking at innovation in amplifier technology the grand daddy of them all is Gerald Stanley who worked at Crown for over 50 years. He has over 45 patents. I met him twice at Crown in Indiana and he is not only a genius but also a nice guy who spent loads of time with me explaining amplifier concepts. One of his inventions, the Class I interleaved class D configuration has many advantages over standard class D. I had a paper on it once but can't find it. Here is a link to some very basic info about it on the Crown site.
