Audio Technica has just come out with an interesting new phono cartridge. I'm not sure how the stylus will deal with the mass of the coil directly over it where in a standard cartridge you have a considerable mechanical advantage from the lever action of the cantilever.

Look at the Decca cartridge from the '60s.... it used a similar approach, I think.

I would love to hear one but at $5k, I am unlikely to purchase one.

There is one on eBay. A Victor (JVC) MC-1 is being offered for $399. Just like the one in the images I attached.
