First Happy Holidays I am working on adding a bit of air to my Maggy's with a additional tweeter. My question is will the magnet of the tweeter interfere with the inductor of a 2nd order xover. If it will how far away should I keep the inductor away? Thanks for any help |

Actually I would recommend a simple high-pass filter and set the value so that the tweeter picks up and blends with the main tweeter ribbon. You heard it here that way -- where my 800-Hz. horn rolls off the ring tweeter takes over. With octave-band measurements you can't even see the transition and you definitely can't hear it. But I have to ask -- doesn't your Maggies have a full-length ribbon tweeter that is pretty much flat out to 20-kHz.? |

The question was....will an inductor be affected by a speaker magnet, and if it will how far should it be away. |

Theoretically, but I wouldn't worry about it. Since the magnet creates a static magnetic field I doubt it would have much impact -- if at all. If anything it might be an improvement kind of like dither. I have fooled around with permanent magnets and interconnects with positive results. The connectors to my ring tweeters had permanent magnets on the cables -- and although you didn't audition my ancient tuner its interconnects also had magnets. |

If it's REAL close, it'll significantly increase the inductance if it's an air-core inductor. Basically, it'll be come a partial core. How close were you thinking of? Roscoe |

so I got out the LCR meter I bought a .13mh coil from PE and it measures .1362mh when I place the coil flat against the speaker magnet it reads.161.1 at 90degrees to the magnet it reads .1392mh moving the coil away just 1.5inches away brings the reading back to .1362mh |

Distance is the best insulator of magnetism. Tom |
