Converting Magnepan MG10QR's to DSP crossover

Checked out the grill frames that insert into the OB H-Frame module face.

Then glued and clamped the first module to do a test fit of the 8in servo woofer.

Will wire them up before installing them in the H-Frames. They are a tight fit.

Have two modules with the 8in servo drivers installed and wired.

Time for some testing.

Finished the 4th sub module and the rest of the wiring for the 8in servo subs.

Once the 4th module glue has set, then install the next two servo woofers and wire them up.

Sub module #7 is assembled and glue drying.

One more module to go and then install drivers for testing. Then off to painting.

Both 4x8in servo sub towers are complete.

This is the idea with the MG10/QR's with the Magna Risers stands installed.

Now for some measurements to see what is needed for the DSP crossover.

The MG10/QR's wired to the GaN Class D Monoblocks and dspNexus 2x8 DSP system.

Next get the Music Server PC with the Audio Weaver system running for testing of the planars.

The Magnepan MG10/QR speakers are now playing music in biamp mode with the EA dspNexus 2x8 DSP crossover driving the four Orchard Audio Starkrimson Monoblocks. Every planar driver with its own HiRez DAC and monoblock amp.

Now that the system is running will use REW to make measurements with my calibrated Behringer ECM8000 mic to see what needs some crossover work.

Did some in room measurements of the MG10/QR's and after some trials, here is a redesigned DSP XO's response with the speakers.

This is at the listening position with a 500mSec time gate to include the room response.

There is also the start of the 80Hz high pass filter for use with the 8in servo subs.

The H-Frames are getting finished now. Waiting on when the modified servo amp are getting shipped.

Rather than burden the Magnepans with extra electronics in the signal path (more crap) run them straight out and set the subs where they "join" the Magnepans at their natural roll-off.

You won't be disappointed.

I was dissapointed with their response without the XO. The basic response is not very flat.

Sounds much better with the DSP and HiRez DAC's after correcting the response.
