I guess the only thing I am confused about is that if the 1/2" plate is the way to go, would I need two accurately cut to fit end to end to drill one, while the other holds it's position?

That is why I was thinking of just marking the holes with all 8 of the Neo10's in place, remove them, then punch and drill. I understand about the bit walking, but the drill guide should help considerably with that compared to the hand drill by itself.

Also will probably need two templates. One for the Neo10 and one for the Neo3-PDR.

Since I have titanium nitride coated drill bits, wouldn't an aluminum template not last long as an accurate drill guide? Would something like this last longer?

That guide will help drill perpendicular holes but not help positioning. Aluminum of the right thickness will not wear significantly given the number of holes yuo will be drilling. You can also use a piece of steel but that is probably over kill. Remember, that most cutting action is at the head of the drill regardless of the drill material. If you have ever tried to slot a hole by pressing the side of the bit against the hole (BAAAAADDD) you will know how long it takes for the edges of the flutes to enlarge the hole. I can also help make the jig and can work with either steel or aluminum as I have cutting fluids for both. I'm in North Potomac so I don't know which one of us that can help is closer to you.

As far as making multiple jigs, if you make one to exactly the correct size, ie the exact size of the driver, you will only need one. You could drill the first set of holes, mount a driver then place the jig next to the driver for the next set of holes and progress that way down the line. If you are worried about schmutz (that's a highly technical term) getting into the driver while drilling you can put a piece of paper over the face of the driver held with a piece of painters tape while drilling the adjacent holes.

Ok, I see what you are describing. I was thinking of wrapping the drivers with Glad wrap for the mounting screw hole drilling, so same basic idea.

I am in SoMD in St. Mary's County. A friend use to live in Potomac, so know the area from visits over the years. Not sure where everyone else is in comparison.

Will get two pieces of the 1/2" aluminum plate. That should be enough for both templates and have some leftover. One piece will not be big enough.

I'm in York, Pennsylvania, so Potomac is a bit closer. Too bad, I used to live in Calvert County....

Sometimes it is good to go over the basics with someone new at the concept. It is also good to refresh your own memory once in a while. I know it is boring for the experts out there but that is how the others learn.
